Being English
Cecil Rhodes said: "To be born English is to win first prize in the lottery of life".
and
"Ask any man what nationality he would prefer to be and ninety-nine out of a hundred will tell you that they would prefer to be Englishmen".
And it is said that a Frenchman, wishing to flatter Lord Palmerston, said to him: "If I were not French, I would wish to be English". Lord Palmerston replied: "If I were not English I would wish to be English".
